Conor Harrington

Born in Ireland in 1980, Conor Harrington's work fuses the aesthetics of neoclassical history painting with contemporary graffiti influences. In his large-format oil paintings and murals, he often depicts heroic figures in 18th century costumes floating through dissolving, abstract spaces. Technically, he combines realistic depictions with loose brushwork and dripping colours, influenced by artists such as Gerhard Richter and the graffiti pioneer Futura.

Thematically, Harrington deals intensively with socio-political issues, in particular the rise and fall of empires and modern male identity. His opulent figures of the colonial era often serve as a critical counterpart to today's ruling elite. Harrington is particularly interested in the dynamic between contrasting elements and creates a bridge between classical and contemporary art through the integration of old and new. The spatial composition of his paintings plays a crucial role, as historical moments seem to sink into the maelstrom of events. His works can be admired as outdoor pieces in countless public spaces around the world.
